It's a pretty strange clip... The spanish city was a fairground in Newcastle, that's why you see attractions at the beginning... But I don't really understand the story of the black girl trying to escape... :s

Brilliant song, strange video - seemingly unrelated to the lyrics. The "lovers chased by soldiers" storyline doesn't click with the lyrics of young love lost in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The fact that it's obviously shot in the Camden locks of north London is also an interesting paradox. Then again, rock stars aren't allowed to look natural these days - nor do they seem to have any of the lyrical and melodic talent that Mr Knopfler so abundantly possesses. Great stuff.
