In January 2006 while visiting Antarctica, we witnessed a most unusual method for orca to dislodge a crabeater seal from an ice floe - they made large waves to wash the seal off the relative safety of the ice. Later the orca put the seal back on the ice and dislodged the seal a second time which suggested strongly they were training their young.

orcas are so intelligent, they work as a team to hunt and do their taxes.

Dumb, old, white woman commentary is always amusing in that band saw-scrotum accident sort of way. I especially appreciate the "I'll loudly repeat exactly what everyone can see for themselves" comments.

hey buddy, if you know about Christianity, you'd know that there is (or was) a hierarchy of creatures, which is part of the "Great Chain of Being".

I also saw this on Animal Planet and it was very impressive. On AP they had an Orca expert analyzing the video telling us exactly what they were doing. It was in fact a strategically planned training exercise for a young Orca, notice how they catch the sea lion and then put it back on the ice so that the young one can do it. You can also see how all of the Orcas were pushing the ice out into the open water for more room to work with. These creatures are so fascinating, I was and still am in awe.

lol why don't they just make a free willy style backflip jump and break the ice?
